Chalk up another win for the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation - in a deal announced yesterday in the Detroit Free Press, Nike and the Farbman Group of Southfield have established a contract that will bring a 9,000+ square-foot concept store to Woodward Avenue in Downtown Detroit.
The store, slated to be in operation by the end of 2004, will be located across from the $30 million Merchants Row retail and commercial project on Woodward Avenue. Detroit's newest large commercial addition will move into a presently-empty storefront and has been generating much excitement since its announcement yesterday.
Although reports state that the store will only be a third of the size of the original Nike concept store in Chicago, it will maintain a highly-similar design and atmosphere. Additionally, bringing another nationally-renowned brand into downtown Detroit is yet another indicator of the city's aggressive economic development initiative to revitalize itself.
