Wings Win It Again !

Congratulations to the Detroit Red Wings, who became the Stanley Cup Champions for the fourth time in 11 years last night with a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins!

Detroit's Mayor announced today that Hockeytown will celebrate the Wings' latest championship with a victory parade on Friday, June 6, in downtown Detroit. Route details have yet to be released, but we do know that the grand celebration is set to begin at 11 am. Check out the city of Detroit's website for more information as it becomes available.

March 24 in Detroit History

March 24 may seem like just another day to you and me, but not to die-hard fans of Motown hockey.

Those that bleed red and white know that on this day in 1936, the Detroit Red Wings and the now-defunct Montreal Maroons battled it out in the longest NHL playoff game ever: a gut-wrenching 176 minutes and 30 seconds.

Right-winger Mud Bruneteau scored the only point of the game in the sixth round of OT, and the Wings skated off with a 1-0 victory. And their first Stanley Cup.
