Opening Day 2007

For most people across the country, tomorrow will be just another Monday. But for Detroiters, April 2, 2007 will be one of the best Mondays of the year.

Time to break-out the baseball hats and dust off that Mags jersey, because another invigorating season of Detroit baseball is upon us.

Opening Day 2006

The AL Championship Tigs take on the Orlando Blue Jays in their home opener tomorrow, with the first pitch scheduled at 1:05.

But the festivities around town kick off much earlier. Die-hard fans can access Comerica Park as early as 10:30 am, but Opening Day-vets know the best place to pre-game is at a bar or restaurant -- the DBC, Cheli's, Town Pump, Detroiter Bar, take your pick -- downtown.

Most establishments open at 9 am, though some, like Proof, start off the day at 7.

Wherever you end up on Opening Day, have fun and be safe. Go Tigers!

On the prowl

The Detroit Tigers are living proof that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.

After losing Game 1 of the ALDS to the New York Yankees last week, the Tigs dusted off the loss and started anew. Determined not to go down without a fight, Detroit surprised everyone by coming from behind and beating the star-studded New York team 4-3 at Yankee Stadium.

The series was tied.

But not for long.

Anchored by the phenomenal pitching of southpaw-Kenny Rogers, the Tigers stomped the Yankees in Game 3 of the ALDS - beating the highest-paid team in Major League Baseball 6-0 in front of a 43,000+ Detroit crowd.

On Saturday, the Tigers gave fans more reasons to cheer when they proved that winning Games 2 and 3 was no fluke. In front of another sellout crowd, the Tigs crushed the Yanks 8-3 in Game 4, ending the opposing team's dream of a 2006 World Series run - and greatly enhancing the chance of a run of their own.

For the first time since 1987, the Detroit Tigers were pronounced ALDS Champions.

Watch the Detroit Tigers battle it out against the Oakland A's this week in the AL Championship. The series begins Tuesday, October 10 (trivia tidbit: October 10 is also Placido Polanco's birthday) at 8 pm at Oakland.

Game 2, set for Wednesday, October 11, is also at 8 pm at Oakland.

The Tigs return to Comerica Park for Games 3 and 4, scheduled for 8 pm on Friday, October 13, and 7:30 pm on Saturday, October 14.

The AL Championship will be televised on FOX and broadcast on Detroit's WXYT 1270 AM.
